Welcome to Autumn! As James Farmer (Southern Living) says, “Fall is a Southerner’s reward for having survived summer.” Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the cool, crisp days, the changing of the leaves, and my ideal color palette! Fall is a time for new people, places, and opportunities, much like the start of a new school year. My hope is that this time of renewal will also bring a spark of regeneration and regrowth for TMAA.
Thank you to all who were able to attend the recent Update meeting in Knoxville. The meeting was characterized by open discussion and active problem solving. It has been my intention to continue to follow the strategic plan first developed in 2012-2013. The comments and perspectives given during Update have helped to fine tune that plan to be more applicable for TMAA's situation today. I would be remiss if I did not mention Jacque Prince’s Legislation Jeopardy. A game that was not only stimulating, but educational! Please refer to the article in this newsletter for a few takeaways from Update 2024.
Over the summer, I was able to attend the TMA Board of Directors Retreat in Chattanooga. Not only was this meeting a great opportunity to meet with members of the Tennessee Medical Association, it also gave insight into their priorities. The breakout sessions that I attended were very informative regarding new TMA programs and goals, such as retaining physicians in the state of Tennessee. The information derived from this meeting has generated some ideas to partner with TMA to work towards mutually beneficial goals.
It has been said that people who love Fall have great memories from their past and positive outlooks on their future. I hope as TMAA members that we have the same sentiment. We respect our past and are eager to build a healthy future. I wish you all a very happy fall and look forward to continuing work with you this year.
