LegislATIVE AFFAIRSTMA Alliance strives to keep its members aware of current legislative efforts that impact the practice of medicine in our state. While the alliance may not endorse candidates for public office, individual members are encouraged to participate actively in the political process. The TMAA VP of Legislative Affairs, TMA Legislative Committee Representative, and the TMA PAC Representative serve in positions that allow them to stay informed, be involved in the process and encourage engagement of TMAA members. Legislative AdvocacyThe Tennessee Medical Association works to promote laws and enact policies affecting the practice of medicine in the state of Tennessee, and TMA Alliance members can be a core component of TMA grassroots advocacy efforts. Lawmakers make crucial decisions that directly affect physicians, their practices, and their patients, and it is vital that they have input from the medical community. Visit the TMA website at tnmed.org to learn more about current legislative priorities. Day on the HillTMA Alliance members may participate in Day on the Hill, an annual event where Tennessee physicians and healthcare advocates have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with state legislators in Nashville to discuss important health care issues. The next Day on the Hill is scheduled for March 5, 2024. This event connects TMAA members directly with their local lawmakers to advocate for improved healthcare policies in Tennessee. The event will begin at noon. Register online at tnmed.org/day-on-the-hill. TMA PACAlliance members may join the TMA PAC, the non-partisan Political Action Committee established by the Tennessee Medical Association. TMA PAC provides a platform for physician involvement in the legislative process and works to elect and retain state legislators who are aligned with TMA policies regarding the practice of medicine in Tennessee.
