Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday with friends and family.
This season brings with it not only hope for the new year, but also the opportunity to reflect on the past year. Under the leadership of Cynthia Gash, TMAA launched a new website to improve external and internal communications. Tennessee state members helped plan and execute a successful AMAA National meeting in Nashville. We also conducted a successful fundraising campaign to aid our neighbors and friends in Northeast Tennessee in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
The new year promises to be challenging as TMAA continues to work on connecting with our membership and communities in meaningful ways. We have several “lunch and learn” sessions planned to help educate membership about the legislation concerning medicine and health issues affecting our communities. The Philanthropic Board of Managers is reviewing the Philanthropic Fund’s purpose and operations to better position it for the future. The Board invites the members to participate in this process by completing a survey. Please take advantage of this opportunity to voice your opinion!
The annual Convention is scheduled for the end of April 2025, and I hope that many of you will be able to participate. Washington-Unicoi-Johnson County will be hosting the convention with Nora Lee and Beth Peterson serving as co-chairs. Updates will be posted on the website.
Lastly, a reminder that TMAA will be accepting nominations for the Milli Yium Mentorship Award this year. The Milli Yium Award is given biennially to honor a TMAA member who exemplifies the spirit of the mentorship role and their contributions to TMAA or their county alliance. The nomination deadline is March 31 and the award will be presented at the annual Convention. Further information and a link to the application can be found in a separate article in this newsletter, as well as the website.
Best wishes to you all for a Happy New Year and thank you for your commitment to TMAA.
Kelly Maxwell | TMAA President 2024-2025
